1. What kind of trips do you offer?
We are open to all kind of trips! Every year we start by deciding what kind of issues we want to focus on, whether it be animal rights, substance abuse, or special education, and then look for organizations across the U.S. that match our focus. The end result is a variety of trips in a variety of locations. If you have any suggestions, feel free to contact us!

2. How many trips do you offer a year?

We have been steadily growing since restarting at MIT in 2008. While in the first few years we only offered one trip per year, we offered three in 2012, and five in 2013. The numbers will keep changing as we continue to grow over the next few years, so keep checking our website for updates on finalized trips!

3. How many students can go on each trip?

We don’t have a set minimum or maximum number, but in the past we have had around 6-12 participants per trip. The average number per trip is expected to be 10.

4. How much do the trips cost?

Each trip will cost a different amount depending on transportation and housing. For example, a trip to New York or Washington D.C. will cost less than a trip to California because of busing vs flying. Past trips have ranged from $150 to $700. The ASB board will release expected costs per trip at the time of applications, and costs will be finalized by February.

5. When do I apply?

We will release applications online in late November each academic year. There is an early application deadline in early December, and the regular deadline is early February. We will also conduct interviews on a rolling basis.

6. Can I apply to more than one trip?

Yup! You can apply to as many trips as you like, but just have them ranked and be prepared to talk about the ones you most want to go on during the interview. Ultimately, each person can only get offered a spot on one trip.

7. Do you offer any kind of financial aid?

We at ASB want every student who wants to participate in a trip to have the chance to, regardless of their ability to pay. We are actively working on pursuing grants and finding outside sources of funding. For students who are interested in trips but have financial considerations, please just apply first and we will try our very best to work out aid later on.
